Gippsland Climate Change Network eNews Summer 2023
Whishing all our followers, project partners, supporters and colleagues a happy holiday season and a safe and happy new year. We thank you for your support over 2023 and look forward to our continued partnership in 2024.
As the year draws to a close, we look back at our achievements but also the challenges as scientists declare 2023 a consecutive record-breaking year for global temperatures. This year locally we saw fires followed by flooding 24 hours later.
At COP 28 the world’s governments had finally agreed to call on countries to begin “transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner, accelerating action in this critical decade, so as to achieve net zero by 2050 in keeping with the science”.
Gippsland has an important role in this transitioning towards a clean renewable energy system. We await the federal government’s announcement of the Gippsland Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Feasibility Licences. A giant leap forward into the new energy era.
We invite you to read our last eNews for 2023. We introduce the new GCCN Board and some of the highlights and links to the 2023 Annual Report. Enjoy.
